April 2025 Update

THANK YOU!
I asked for prayer: I was a bit stressed about my classes. I agreed to teach three courses I have NEVER taught before. It feels like the Lord gave me ideas...and the classes are going well. Synoptic Gospels is my favorite. I am showing the students how to compare/contrast the different gospel writers when their information about the same event is different. They are now coming to class with a text and leading the class through exegetical questions.

Heather and my Daughters...Visited Brussels!
Heather came over for almost a month to celebrate our 42nd anniversary! We ate sushi three times! We had a great time. Quiet Heather was transformed into Chi Alpha Heather, laughing and visiting with students from all over Europe and Africa. She reminded me that she did international student ministry at the Univ of Alabama Chi Alpha. She also cooked her famous curry for all the students - they LOVED it!

Next, Hope and Erin came over for almost two weeks as well. I had to leave the EU to "save days" on my 90 day VISA...So the whole family headed to Scotland for a 10 day visit and to see ol' friends!

Bruges, Venice of Belgium
The mother of a student (and a good friend of mine now) took Heather and I to Bruges. The photo of me looking at the crucifix below is at St. Salvator's Cathedral, a church that was built in the 10th century, suffered damage in a fire, then was restored in 1250.
At the bottom of the page are some photos we wanted to share.

Back in Belgium
In another few days I will be back to my students. We will have around 5 weeks before the semester is over. Pray with me that God will continue open doors for good discussions with the students. I eat almost all of my meals with the students. This gives me a lot of opportunity. Many times a student will begin asking me questions about a biblical text...or a doctrinal position, and we have a really solid conversation. I am hear to mentor these young people - Teaching is a bonus for me. Pray for me that I stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Thank you

Charles & Amanda Gravely
I met Charles as a 16 year old high school senior. He came with a friend to our Chi Alpha group, stayed through his university career, served as a student small group leader, then went into Chi Alpha ministry. He and Amanda have been serving as the XA pastors at the main University in Brussels for 17 years! Charles is now a friend and colleague.

Now I am staying with Des and Sharon Gurr in Dundee, Scotland. In my final year in Scotland I served in Full Gospel Church with Des in Dundee. He and I became fast friends. Des and Sharon graciously opened their home to me so I can "save" days on my VISA. I am enjoying my time with this couple who have served the Lord for many years. They are no longer on staff with the church, but still serve there in various ways.

These are most of my students this semester: (one was out sick and another worked late the night before).
A couple from Austria, a couple from Portugal, a young man from Germany, one from Belgium, two students from Romania, one from Reunion Island and one from West Virginia!

Next Academic Year?
They have asked me to teach next year. My plan is to do about the same thing I did this year: I will travel to Belgium in Sept (stay for around two weeks) to meet my students and get two classes started. Finish the semester teaching remotely from Texas, then head back in late January to teach 3-4 classes in the Spring semester. I will update everyone as the months roll by.

Again, I want to thank each of you for your prayers and financial support. It means a great deal to me and without it I could not be in Belgium investing in these young people - the next generation.
