Christians are being Persecuted and Killed all over the World
March 25, 2016
Big names in Catholic and evangelical communities have been trying to draw attention to the impact of terrorist groups (mainly ISIS) on faith communities in the Middle East. Christians are being chased out of Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan by the thousands and thousands more have been killed. This situation is beginning to look like the Muslim push that led to the infamous Crusades in the Middle Ages.
In 2003 there were 1.5 million Christians living in Iraq - now that population is approximately only 250,000.
It is being reliably reported that 100,000 Christians are being killed around the world every year over the past 5-10 years - part of a religious persecution.
D.H. Williams, Professor at Baylor University, is a specialist in early Christian literature, language and history, particularly the Church outside the Roman Empire. His connections with Eastern churches has convinced him to become an advocate for the faith groups that have survived in the East for centuries, but are now being repressed. "I can’t really turn a blind eye to the plight of the Christians there" says Williams, who has been instrumental in organizing an event hosted at Baylor to challenge Christians in the U.S.A. with this pressing problem.
"I want to do whatever we can to create a venue for getting financial help for those who need to resettle somewhere on account of persecution," added Williams.
